Understanding Our Adoption Fees
Why We Charge an Adoption Fee
At Woodhill Cat Rescue, we don't just find homes for cats; we raise family members. We know you can find free kittens in a box or "barn cats" for little to no cost. But "free" cats often come with hidden costs—both financial and emotional.
When you adopt from us, you aren't just paying a fee; you are investing in a healthy, socialized, and deeply loved animal. We take the financial risk so you don't have to.
1. The "Premium Care" Difference
We believe a healthy life starts with a healthy diet and a happy mind. While many rescues rely on whatever is donated, we make specific choices to ensure our cats thrive:
-
Premium Nutrition: Our cats are raised on Redford Naturals and Primal Kibble in the Raw, a high-quality diet that ensures healthy growth, shiny coats, and strong immune systems. We don't cut corners on their health.
-
Socialization & Enrichment: We spend hundreds of dollars on interactive toys, climbing structures, and—everyone's favorite—Churu treats. These aren't just "extras"; they are tools we use to build trust.
-
The "Spoiled" Factor: Our cats are used to soft laps, warm beds, and human affection. They don't just survive; they are pampered.
2. The Medical Reality (The Math)
We pride ourselves on transparency. Below is a breakdown of what we spend on average to get a single cat ready for your home versus what you would pay at a vet clinic on your own.
Your adoption fee covers less than half of the actual medical costs we incur—and that doesn't even include the food, litter, and supplies.
3. Safety & Commitment
Finally, our adoption fee serves a critical protective purpose. Sadly, "free to good home" animals are often targets for people with bad intentions, including being sold to research labs or used for dog fighting bait.
-
A Financial Shield: Our fee acts as a barrier to ensure that every inquiry comes from a family ready to make a serious financial and emotional commitment.
-
Reinvesting in Rescue: 100% of your adoption fee goes directly back into the rescue to help the next cat in the "valley" who needs us. We are volunteers; we don't make a penny.
4.The Bottom Line: Love
When you adopt from Woodhill, you are getting a healthy, confident, well-fed companion who is ready to love you from day one.
